Senior Instrument & Controls Engineer

The Senior Instrument & Controls Engineer provides technical support to operations and maintenance in their assigned area on the refinery's instrumentation and controls (I&C) assets, manages maintenance projects and supports small capital projects as needed. This position requires a proven problem solver and equipment owner serving as a technical resource for the instrument and controls infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Participate and promote all aspects of refinery safety programs.

- Review, develop, and field verify accuracy of Instrument Design Packages
- Provide turnaround support for assigned area, develop engineering and design packages, review/approve specifications and support field construction through commissioning and start-up.

- Provide routine maintenance engineering and troubleshooting support for instrumentation and analyzers. The instrument asset base includes field measurement sensors, transmitters, analyzers, control valves and automated on/off valves.
- Support documentation systems and processes that maintain accurate I&C equipment information and drawings.
- Perform and/or participate in Criticality Analysis for instrumentation and maintaining the criticality ranking for this equipment.
- Identify equipment problems and recommend appropriate measures to control, manage and correct issues to drive reliability and asset improvements.
- Participate in Process Hazards Analyses for refinery process units.
- Design , recommend, and implement new equipment solutions where justified.
- Serve as a technical resource to properly identify new and existing equipment specifications and operating parameters/ranges for I&C equipment.
- Evaluate and recommend improvements to spares inventory and storage solutions.
- Participate in knowledge sharing with other sites within the company by serving as a member in the instrumentation network.
- Effectively communicate and engage other functional groups at all levels of the refinery.
- Assure compliance with Management of Change Policy.
- Leading and participating in root cause failure analyses (RCFAs).

Senior Hire - Corrosion & Materials Engineer

The Corrosion & Materials Engineer (Senior Hire) provides engineering support in the areas of metallurgy, corrosion, coatings, and welding to continuously improve safe, reliable operation of refinery equipment. Additionally, the role provides corrosion control services with a primary focus on asset integrity while also maintaining compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements for refinery assets.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Providing effective, practical, and economical solutions to materials, metallurgical, corrosion, coating, and welding problems that arise during refinery maintenance, operations, and projects
- Assuring compliance with codes, refinery standards, and industry practices required in the construction and/or repair of pressure vessels, piping and other pressure containing equipment
- Participating in progressing work on company mechanical integrity standards, industry practices and jurisdictional requirements
- Performing process variable tracking. Leading the development and monitoring of MI related ROLs (Reliable Operating Limits aka Integrity Operating Windows IOWs).
- Review/recommend changes in unit operations with Process personnel to maintain safety, extend life, or reduce costs
- Collaborating with Energy Research and Innovation organization to conduct failure investigations and corrosion studies on systems and equipment
- Writing and reviewing Inspection Work Requests (IWR) and welding procedure specifications (WPS)
- Keeping abreast of new developments in areas of process corrosion/fouling control systems corrosion monitoring, and materials of construction and utilizing where available and appropriate

- Identify corrosion/fouling and other damage mechanisms and recommend control and monitoring methods as a part of the Refinery Risk Based Inspection Program

I&E Engineer - Clear Lake, TX
Summery: I&E ENGINEER
Seeking a I&E Engineer to assure proper operation, change management, installation and repair of instrument and electrical equipment according to regulatory standards. This position will be the focal point for all changes involving, but not limited to; instrumentation, control valves, motors, switchgear, motor control centers/starters and transformers. The Instrument and Electrical Operations Engineer will work closely with maintenance, and operations to understand needs and requirements to ensure safety and efficient operations.
Expectations
- Provides electrical and instrument technical support for maintenance, operation and troubleshooting of site instrumentation, control, electrical equipment, and systems. Focus for role is on operate and maintain area of the equipment.
- Participate in RCM Asset Management Plan (AMP) development and stewards the implementation of the plan requirements.
- Provide PM development input, primarily through the RCM AMP process.
- Audit and improve instrument and electrical equipment PM programs to ensure the health and effectiveness of the systems based on equipment failures, process changes and PM data.
- Provide support for T&I (turnaround) work scope development.
- Participates and/or leads in the investigation and follow-up documentation of high impact or high potential impact incidents.
- Provide input and feedback to regional support groups on efforts to improve long term equipment operability, reliability, energy efficiency, and maintenance expense.
- Assist with the sites bad actor program & O.E.E. Identify the sites bad actors based on a combination of production loss and failure frequency. Drive the organization to find true root cause and effective mitigations to systematically eliminate bad actors.
- Provides guidance for instrumentation and electrical systems as part of site investments and/or modifications. Including but not limited to:
- o Assist in front end and commissioning phases of capital projects; (e.g. ensure project complies with site standards, practices and goals) power study reviews, specification reviews, participation in HAZOP/DHR, provide alternative selection/options with multiple solutions.
- o Ensure projects are designed for maintainability and reliability.
- o Provide capital and expense project ideas based on reliability analysis and feedback from operations and other site personnel.
- o Provide early input on project maintainability and reliability considerations to ensure major scope is not missed during project development.
- o Provide capital investment and expense project ideas based on reliability analysis and feedback from operations and other site personnel.
- Interfaces with diverse groups including instrument technicians, electrical technicians, production operators and engineers, rotating equipment specialist and engineers, process control engineers and maintenance/operation team leaders.
- Provide support as a facilitator for problem analysis, risk assessment, root cause analysis, etc. for very critical equipment failures where the failure root cause is not well understood or there are multiple options for resolution without a clear leading option.
- Ensure that the activities are carried out to comply with the integrated management system, as applicable (safety, food safety, GMP, health, environmental, quality and responsible care requirements).
- Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and an ability to work extra hours if needed. If applicable, ability to work overtime may be needed to ensure required staffing capacity to meet daily production objectives.
Experience

- 5+ years I&E Maintenance or Reliability experience required.

QA/QC Lab Manager
Summary
Manages the quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) program and fermentation for the ethanol plant to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting policies, goals and objectives of the company.
Responsibilities
- Manages plant QA/QC program.
- Initiates and implements plant QA/QC program based on best practice in the ethanol industry.
- Implements and maintains plant feed safety program based on industry standards.
- Monitors use and inventories of laboratory chemicals and supplies. Initiate re-ordering when necessary.
- Oversees the maintenance and calibration schedule for laboratory equipment.
- Prepare reports, analyze data and make recommendations for improving operation or solving process related problems.
- Demonstrates the ability to sample various points in the process and conducts QA/QC tests as required.
- Supervises QA/QC Laboratory Technicians.
- Ensures Laboratory Technicians knowledge and skills in key areas, safe work policies and practices via training, mentoring and lab qualification process (Renewables Lab Qualification program).
- Communicates regularly with all Laboratory Technicians, both individually and as a group, to ensure consistent implementation of the program.
- Maintains and updates operating and training manuals for the QA/QC laboratory.
- Manages plant fermentation performance.
- Leads optimization and troubleshooting of fermentation and other process areas as it relates to fermentation.
- Implements fermentation best practices.
- Oversees fermentation related plant trials and supports other process enhancement opportunities as it relates to fermentation.

- Directs, maintains, and enforces the safety program for the QA/QC laboratory; review safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all laboratory technicians.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's or higher-level degree in a related scientific or technical field required.
- Minimum of ten years of experience in a QA/QC laboratory required.

- Knowledge of mashing, fermentation, and distillation as they relate to the ethanol production process required.

Manufacturing Maintenance & Reliability Engineer
Summary:
This role provides maintenance engineering support while managing the Mechanical Integrity (MI), Preventative Maintenance (PM), and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) programs for the chemical manufacturing site. Key responsibilities include collecting and analyzing equipment data, conducting failure analyses to identify corrective actions, and extending equipment lifespan. Additionally, the position collaborates with project engineering on capital projects to ensure equipment reliability and maintenance considerations, acting as the maintenance representative on selected projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gathers and analyzes plant reliability data and metrics.
- Develops and maintains a Top Ten equipment reliability issue list for the facility.
- Implements continuous improvement projects/initiatives to increase asset on-stream time and equipment reliability.
- Works with the plant maintenance personnel to ensure all MI, PM, and PdM work is being completed on-time, efficiently, and effectively.
- Owns and maintains the Mistras Plant Condition Management Software (PCMS) for Pilot Chemical.
- Serves as a liaison between plant and project engineering for capital projects.
- Maintains and enhances the MI, PM, and PdM programs across Manufacturing, including proper documentation.
- Leads root cause analyses and FMEAs as appropriate.
- Develops recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
- Maintains critical equipment lists for both LCK and MDT plants.
- Develops Project Charters for maintenance-related capital funding requests.
- Coordinates work performed by outside contractors, vendors, technical consultants.
- Ensures organization complies with safety regulations and requirements.
- Develops and improves plant drawings, standards, and work instructions, especially those pertaining to equipment maintenance.
- Performs other work as prioritized across manufacturing and assigned by the Operations Engineer - Manufacturing Initiatives.
- Within the maintenance/reliability function, ensures compliance with the Responsible Care Management System including the establishment of policies and procedures, assigning responsibilities, and tracking progress.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
- At least 7 years of relevant industrial experience.
- Demonstrated field experience in analyzing and determining needed corrective action in maintenance.
- Demonstrated knowledge of PSM Elements and experience developing, implementing, and maintaining MI and PM programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of ASME code for vessels and piping.
- Familiarity with electrical, piping, mechanical, RAGAGEP, NFPA, ISA standards.
- Demonstrated understanding of failure analysis.
- Demonstrated ability in continuous improvement.
- Budgeting skills necessary to cost effectively manage contractors.

This position leads the maintenance execution and reliability functions at the facility. Primary responsibilities include:
- Establishing strategic focus, driving goals and objectives, and managing resources and projects to maximize
the effectiveness and consistency of our maintenance practices and overall facility operations.
- Participating as a member of the site leadership team.
- Working closely in alignment with Operations and Process Engineering.
- Directing all planning, scheduling, maintenance, and reliability activities to ensure that medium-term and
short-term objectives are achieved, including day-to-day execution and turnaround preparedness.
- Managing the effective use of contractors in support of all maintenance related activities.
- Ensuring all department Action Plans for improvements in HES, Equipment Reliability, MWP, and Mechanical
Integrity are developed and implemented by leading as a role model, setting the appropriate expectations,
following through on completion, and confirming results.
- Aggressively and effectively manage the development of skills, knowledge, and competencies within the
maintenance organization.
Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering.
- Experience base in the petrochemical or similar industry.
- Minimum 10 years combined professional experience in Maintenance/Operations, Project Management,
and Reliability Engineering.
- Minimum 3-5 years in related leadership roles.
- Must be an excellent communicator, strong leader, have solid interpersonal skills and be able to deal with all
levels in the organization.
- Must have a balanced strategic and tactical focus, be creative and innovative, and demonstrate outstanding
problem solving, analytical, organizational, and planning skills.
