EN/Phlebotomist
Duties and Responsibilities.
Ensures that patients/ clients from whom a blood or other specimen is to be taken, are accurately identified and taught about the actual procedure and their rights, in conformity with relevant standard operating procedures.
- Uses appropriate, sterile equipment to take blood samples and non-blood specimens from patients/clients at different locations in a way that will produce the best results. This could involve using fast pathology testing kits and Point of Care (POC) biomedical equipment systems.
- Pays attention to the physical state of patients while drawing blood and uses appropriate first aid techniques to guarantee the clients' and patients' comfort and safety.
- Maintains documentation of specimens collected and guarantees proper recording of all clinical and patient data.
- Guarantees that specimens are sent for processing in compliance with established standard operating procedures.
- Tracks the filing and progress of reports, including responding to inquiries and delivering reports on time, in compliance with established turnaround requirements.
- Orders extra stock when necessary to guarantee that all necessary materials are always available. This includes keeping an eye on the stock levels of all collection supplies, including venesection "bleeding" bags.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and applicable laws in order to maintain a safe working environment. They also work well as a team and implement solid housekeeping routines. This entails involvement (as per assigned responsibilities), adherence to infection control procedures, and continuous maintenance of quality control standards.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Meet Tests Around Times Within Targeted Timeframes and Standards
Develop and implement systems to meet 95% of TAT performance
2. Accurate processing of Patient Samples
Performs diagnostic testing procedures, reviews and verifies results and interacts with pathologists on technical matters to provide all relevant data that may pertain to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of diseases.
3. Actively Manages Stock Levels Within Agreed Parameters and Safety Stock Levels
Submit stock forecast as per deadlines, referencing the last 30 days' tests and accurate stock-on-hand values
Actively monitor tests per week versus forecast and address anomalies
Report on usage per analyser; identify excessive wastage versus designed specifications
Records of stock control to present consumption
4. Effective Capacity, Resource Planning and Scheduling
Facilitate that the departmental operations are functional and that service delivery to clients and patients is met. Ensure that shift coverage with scheduled work arrangements is met and complies with HR requirements.
5. Team Management
Design a Training and Competency Plan for staff development
Facilitate all educational opportunities and activities for staff to ensure objectives and performance standards are adhered to.
6. Resolution of Queries and Complaints
Actively address and action internal and external complaints in a systematic manner, implement corrective actions and monitor effectiveness for adherence to protocols
7. Effectively Manage the Assets (Equipment) required to achieve the Department's Operation Requirements
Report on physical, financial and contractual aspects of all equipment on a monthly basis
8. Cost Management
Monitor, control and report on operational costs without compromising quality standards9. Quality Assurance by Implementing Good Lab Practices Referencing SANAS/ISO 15189 Standards
Ensure compliance to standard operating procedures, work instructions, checklists, and resolution of non-conformances

Position: IT Support Technician
Location: Musgrave - Durban
We are searching for an experienced and qualified Laboratory Assistant to join our team. The role will be responsible to provide quality medical laboratory services by performing routine analytical procedures, maintaining equipment, controlling quality assurance within the sphere of responsibility, Administers Pre and Post-analytical functions, in accordance with service goals.
Responsibilities:
1. Meet Tests Around Times Within Targeted Timeframes and Standards
Receive, distribute and process samples within TATs and according to standard operating procedures
Executing systems to meet 95% of TAT performance
2. Actively Manages Stock Levels Within Agreed Parameters and Safety Stock Levels
Ensures that all instrumentation has adequate stock levels for optimal performance
Ensures stock control is monitored and maintained on a continuous basis
3. Accurate Processing of Patient Samples
Performs the processing of routine and urgent samples according to standard operating procedures, thereby ensuring consistent workflow and meeting expectations
Accounting for inconsistencies that may arise if outstanding checks are not reported and actioned.
Actively engage with external clients/suppliers with analyser breakdowns, and failures.
4. Quality Assurance by Implementing Good Lab Practices Referencing SANAS/ISO 15189 Standards
Ensure the correct application for quality assurance processes by ensuring the completion of all tasks
Run internal and external Quality control samples as per relevant standard operating procedures
Ensures that equipment is maintained and calibrated in line with defined processes and procedures
5. Health, Safety and Environment
Ensures that all staff are compliant to all Health and Safety rules and regulations to prevent incidents and minimise exposure to risks to personnel and the environment. Willing and able to represent as an officer when required. Ensure proper housekeeping and bench decontamination.
6. Pre and Post Analytical
Administers sorting and distribution of samples according to set standard operating procedures to ensure the correct and prioritized channelling of specimens to various laboratories/ sites.
Processes sample registration (logging) and queries according to set standard operating procedures.
Ensures dispatching of specimens for processing in accordance with prescribed standard operating procedures and monitors progress and filing of reports, including handling queries and report delivery, in line with prescribed turnaround time.
Investigates bottleneck in pre-analytical laboratory processes and ensure timely resolution of challenges.
Receives cash from patients and ensures banking of monies in accordance with relevant standard operating procedures.
Prepares and scans patient forms onto the scanning system and resolves the scanning incompletes according to set standard operating procedures.
Maintain Client communication and documentation to record feedback to the department heads including reviews and client feedback.
Following the process for the Client feedback loop, identifying relevant issues, complaints, comments, improvements, and opportunities.
Translate Client queries in the companys system, and engage across departments to resolve queries within tight deadlines.
Actively participate in departmental meetings, training interventions and periodic evaluations.
Other ad-hoc functions may be required
